A Twin-screw extruder for oil extraction: I. Direct expression of oleic sunflower seeds
A new process, in which sunflower seeds are pressed in a. twin-screw extruder, is examined here. The screw profile was. first optimized. Oleic sunflower seeds were crushed and 80% of. the oil
The screw configuration and the operating conditions had an important influence on the oil extraction yield, the energy input and the quality of oil extracted during the extrusion of sunflower seeds. Higher oil extraction yield and specific mechanical energy were reached as the reversed screw elements were moved with increased spacing between elements and with smaller pitch elements.

sunflower is not new to Egyptian agriculture. The production area of sunflower seeds for oil production in Egypt exceeded the 10,000ha in the time period between 1988 and 2007, reaching its peak (30,000ha) in 1993. The increase in production area was linked to
A new application of twin-screw extruder as a machine to conduct a thermo-mechanical pressing and a solvent extraction of sunflower oil in a single step and in a continuous mode was studied. Experiments were conducted using a CLEXTRAL BC 45 co-rotating twin
A twin‐screw extruder for oil extraction: I. Direct expression of oleic sunflower seeds, Dufaure, 1999, Journal of the American Oil Chemists
A new process, in which sunflower seeds are pressed in a twin-screw extruder, is examined here. The screw profile was first optimized. Oleic sunflower seeds were crushed and 80% of the oil was removed. The resultant oil was of good quality, with acid numbers
A self-developed in-situ observation test rig and the FEM method were used to research the sunflower seed extrusion-structural damage evolution during extrusion-extraction. The research method can be used for better modeling and understanding the seed structural-mechanical and oil output property, leading to better oil extraction.
Twin-screw extrusion technology for vegetable oil extraction: A review
The design consists of a pilot-scale partially intermeshing, counter-rotating twin-screw extruder-press with a barrel composed of vertical, parallel plates varying in diameter. The twin-screw press operated at a feeding rate of 50–58 kg/h and attained a high oil recovery of 94% for dehulled sunflower seeds.
Lipids are traditionally removed from seeds by mechanical crushing and solvent extraction. During the mechanical crushing process the oilseed is cleaned, cracked, flaked, and cooked before entering a mechanical screw press. Seventy-five percent of the oil of sunflower seeds can be extracted by crushing, and the fatty cake then contains about 15% of oil. The oil levels remaining in the cake can
A twin‐screw extruder for oil extraction: II. Alcohol extraction of oleic sunflower seeds, Dufaure, 1999, Journal of the American Oil
The Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society publishes original research and technological advances on fats, oils, oilseed proteins, and related materials. Abstract Our work is about the extraction of sunflower seed oil in a twin-screw extruder with or without the injection of 2-ethylhexanol and acidified 2-ethylhexanol. 2-Ethylhexanol is mixed with p...
