Twin-screw extrusion technology for vegetable oil extraction
The design consists of a pilot-scale partially intermeshing, counter-rotating twin-screw extruder-press with a barrel composed of vertical, parallel plates varying in diameter. The twin-screw press operated at a feeding rate of 50–58 kg/h and attained a high oil recovery of 94% for dehulled sunflower seeds.
A new application of twin-screw extruder as a machine to conduct a thermo-mechanical pressing and a solvent extraction of sunflower oil in a single step and in a continuous mode was studied.
